The Artist
About Brian Lai
Brian Lai is a tattoo artist in Austin, Texas with more than six years in the chair, and Khroma Tattoo is his studio.
How Does Brian Lai Approach Tattoo Design?
Tattooing, to me, begins long before the machine touches skin.
Every project starts with observation, how the body moves, how existing forms interact, and what kind of visual language best suits the person wearing it. Rather than beginning with a style, I begin with composition.
My work draws from blackwork, realism, graphic design, photography, and contemporary art. Those influences aren't copied directly; they're broken apart, studied, and rebuilt into something made specifically for each client.
I enjoy projects that evolve through collaboration. Sometimes that means refining a clear idea. Other times it means discovering one together. Either way, the goal is the same: to create work that feels intentional, personal, and lasting.
Khroma Tattoo is more than a portfolio. It is an ongoing body of work exploring how tattooing can function as both design and self-expression. Every piece adds to that conversation.
Where Is Khroma Tattoo Located in Austin?
Khroma Tattoo operates out of Austin, TX. The studio holds a small schedule on purpose: fewer projects, more attention on each one. Hygiene runs hospital-grade, needles are single-use, and every station is broken down and rebuilt between guests.
